Fort Myers Beach is actually an island connected by two bridges to mainland. Ft. Myers Beach Bridge on the north side and San Carlos draw bridge on the south side. And because it is an island – it feels like an island! Gulf of Mexico on west side, water mass on east side.
Under the north bridge there are few marinas and sailboats moorings. Also shrimp boat fleet is located nearby.
Most tourists are naturally drawn to Gulf side to beaches and bars and hotels. I always liked the other side more though. It is quiet and more island like. I also love to watch sailboats, even if they only sit on the water and rock.
Friend of mine use to have rental house on west side. It was beautiful there. It was on canal heading under the bridge, I used to hop in his kayak and paddled around. It was away from busy tourist side of the island and very relaxing. Unfortunately he sold it.
Good time to visit Fort Myers Beach is from November – May. Summers in south Florida are very hot and humid, after all it is tropics.
