It took me a while to enjoy pedaling in Fort Myers area. But since I got this
map of bike paths in SW Florida
and new Trek Livestrong bicycle, I go for a ride at least few times a week. It became our family tradition that we all go somewhere on weekend and explore some parts of southwest Florida. See some of our trips here.
In addition I go for my exercise to one cute track which goes for 14 miles on nice and flat bike paths. Though it runs along with 6 lane street it is nicely secluded from it and you can go crazy there. It usually takes me an hour and I am nicely tired.
It starts at Cape Coral Target store on Veterans Pkwy and Santa Barbara Blvd. So I just park my car at parking lot, unload the bike and of I go. I go all the way to Burnt Store Rd and back. That is where path ends. It is very nice close to the end as you pass County Preserve on the left hand side. It is untouchable land for development (so far) and it should look very close to the original Cape Coral landscape (before any development - 100 years ago).
Only trouble with this otherwise nice path is that you have to cross couple of streets. There are two traffic lights on the way (easy to cross) and three other crosses you have to negotiate. Be careful - drivers in SW Florida are not very used to look out for bicycles so far. That will hopefully change in the near future.
Great thing here in Lee County is that all LeeTran buses have the bicycle racks on front of them. So you can ride bus with your bike to your destination and not to worry about parking your car. And that all for just $1.Schedules and more about LeeTranhere.
