Want to drive out even further of Fort Myers? Tips for even more adventure types
Trips over 2 hours of drive from Fort Myers.
Key West
– Caribbean pearl on US mainland – 6 hours by car, 4 hours by high speed ferry, 30 minutes by small plane from RSW. Drive is long and exhausting but beautiful – all bridges on the way and emerald waters are worth it. Don't use ferry from Fort Myers Beach if you get seasick. Plan your stay for at least two or three days.
Dry Tortugas
- If you get to Key West – you have to see this cute little island. Great snorkeling, excellent history lesson. Over 2 hours by high speed ferry or 40 minutes by small seaplane from Key West. We used ferry and it was little rough on the way back. We plan to stay overnight next time.
Sarasota - Florida cultural center. Ringling Museum of Art, Jungle Garden, Marie Selby Botanical Garden, Mote Marine Aquarium. Great beaches on Siesta Key, Longboat Key, Lido Key. Egmont Key accessible by boat only – ruins of old fort, turtles and birds. 1 ½ hour drive.
